Day 20- Do Your Hair

Day 20

Straight hair, curly hair, wavy hair, oily hair or dry hair – there is a struggle we all face no matter what hair type we have.

It took me years to figure out the perfect hair routine for myself but eventually I realized my natural hair works best with natural products.

I have naturally, untamed, frizzy, dry and extremely curly hair. Hair like mine requires loads of moisture and products that do not contain sulfate or silicone.

Occasionally I will go to the hair salon for a blow wave and when I do, I leave my hair for an entire week before washing it. This allows me to save money and protect the condition of my hair.

When I do not go to the salon, I still only throughly wash my hair once a week but rinse it everyday, leave in my conditioner, comb it through and allow it to air dry. This routine has allowed me to fall in love with my natural curls and makes me happy knowing I am not damaging my hair.

Products I use

I now use a shampoo and conditioner bar from Be Bare Life, which is a local, South African brand. The benefits of using these bars allows me to reduce my wastage and avoid contaminating the water with harsh chemicals.
This product is not tested on animals and is packaged in biodegradable boxes. At R130 a bar, they are worth the money. Each bar lasts fairly the same amount of time, mine have lasted for about 3 months and i use them almost every day. You’ll get 15% off your first order.

The Wet Brush impressively detangles my hair but funnily enough works best when my hair is dry. When brushing I always ensure to begin at the ends, working my way up to prevent any unnecessary breakage. The other brush I use is a Tangle Teezer. It works wonders on both wet and dry hair and the shape of it makes it easy to grip. Also, it’s super convenient when traveling.
