Day 17 – Mindful Breathing

Day 17

One of the greatest connections I ever made, was to my breath. Naturally, we all breathe- morning, noon and night (incase ya’ll didn’t know that).

The essence of self love, is connection. Connection to youself and to the universe – in my eyes this is one in the same.

I have strong beliefs that all human beings are made up from all that the universe is – energy and that for me, is simple to understand. This will allow you to make sense of why the breath is so important.

We all know, that without nature providing us and all other living beings with the means to breathe, we would not be able to. We rely on the energies of the land like fish rely on the energies of the ocean. Hence, everything is one.

Our breath, is energy too and very often referred to as ‘our life force’ which is very fitting. Not because we cannot live without it but more importantly because our breath is what leads us through the days it can stress us and yet, it has the ability to calm us too.

Through connection to our breath we have the ability to live in a space of calm all the time. Don’t believe me? Try it for yourself.

Connecting to one’s breath requires devoting time everyday to breathing mindfully, with intention. This can be for just 5 minutes everyday or more and the more often you practise, the easier it becomes. Eventually, that connection comes naturally.

How to breathe?

● Find a quiet place to sit and breathe
● Turn on some calm music
● Take a deep breathe in and exhale as much air out as possible.
● Inhale for 4 counts, hold for 2 counts, exhale for 6 counts. Do this 10 times.
● You can do this with your eyes closed or open.

I highly recommend listening to Inhale Xhale’s playlist on YouTube. They specialize in making mindful, harmonious and relaxing music, which is perfect for this activity.
