Loof Cafe Norwood
The spaces I choose to be in are spaces where I can feel and be the most ‘me’. These spaces are hard to find, and a space like this, that offers great coffee too, is even more of a challenge to locate.
Loof, is a corner coffee shop in Norwood, Johannesburg with an industrial feel and purposely dilapidated fittings and decor, which provides me with the exact feels I need for blogging. This imperfect space allows my mind to relax and my creativity to flow.
Loof is a space where it’s easy to grab a quick coffee on-the-go, have a meeting or just sit and witness life happening around you, without having to delving into it.
On the daily, it packs a variety of people from business men to self-proclaimed artists. It’s a space with a welcoming atmosphere, offering a variety of coffee styles – my two favorite being a cortado and an iced latte.
Every morning, freshly baked goods are out on the counter. Cheesecake, carrot cake, rice crispy treats and my go-to – croissants. There rustic food menu hangs on clip-boards around the Cafe offering a variety of delicious dishes, from smashed avo on toast with poached eggs to a simple quiche.
There is a communal table which is equipped with an electricity port, which allows you to sit comfortably, charge your electronics and get lost in your work for hours. Sitting here also brings about the opportunity to meet new people and make connections, which is one of my favorite up-side to sitting here.
And if meeting new people is not your goal, you can easily avoid this by grabbing a book to read from the self, while you sip on your cuppa. The book swap system offers you the option to bring a book of your own and swop it with another or purchase one to take home for only R20.
When it comes to pricing, Loof coffees are not much more expensive than all the other coffee shops I’ve visited, and I visit many. Besides, I am much more willing to spend my dough on coffee that’s prepared correctly and full of flavor. Not to mention, every coffee is made with a double shot!
I find myself there 5 days a week and can often find myself getting lost in blogging or chatting to new creatives. Basically, if you want to stalk me, this is where you’ll find me
In terms of safety, Loof is located on a street with many passersby. Naturally, living in Johannesburg we are always supposed to be cautious but I have never witnessed anything dangerous occurring in or outside of the space. But when sitting outside, it is adviced to be aware of your surroundings and not obliviously be on your phone.
Parking can unfortunately be a hassle, especially during busy hours. I, for one, don’t mind waiting a few minutes for an opening or driving parking a little further down the road but if you’re in a rush you can order your coffee for collection using the Coffee Monster App and the Loof employees will deliver it to your window as you drive past.
Coffee Monster offers you the option to order coffee from over 50 of the best coffee spots in South Africa.
The owner of Loof has a wonderful passion for his shop, which is easily identifiable. He has invested a lot of time and effort into making this space one to feel welcome in and has succeeded in doing so.
Download the Coffee Monster App using ‘inspace’ as your referral code, order a coffee and your next coffee will be FREE!!!!
