Self Love | Coconut Oil

We are all aware of the fact that coconut oil is a g-d sent with its million uses; we should all have a tub of it in our houses. I have found it to be a product that I use every day and the more I do, the more I fall in love.

Coconut oil is the start and the end to all my days. Here are a few of my favourite uses for coconut oil.

Coconut pulling

I begin every morning with a tablespoon of coconut oil, solid or melted, place it in my mouth and swish it around for 20 minutes. When I first began doing this, 20 minutes felt extremely long but as I continued it became routine. Coconut pulling must be done with Organic Extra Virgin Cold Pressed coconut oil and on an empty stomach. Be sure not to swallow it! Coconut pulling removes all the accumulated bacteria’s in our mouths, speeds up our metabolism, prevents tooth decay, fights gum disease and removes plaque build-up, bet your dentist never told you that.   Once I spit it out I rinse my mouth with a glass of warm salt water, to remove any excess oil and bacteria. Then, I  lightly brush my teeth with Olgani fluoride free toothpaste.

Cooking with coconut oil

When it comes to cooking, coconut oil is tops. You can buy a neutral tasting one that won’t alter the taste of any of your foods and the health benefits are mind-blowing. Coconut oil is known to stabilize your hormones, aids digestion, boosts your immune system and improves brain functioning when ingested. You can also add it to a smoothie and are able to find many recipes that use coconut oil. It is safe to say, we should all be including it to our diets.

Body scrub

Once a week I have a full romance with my homemade coconut oil body scrub. Once a month the epidermis (top layer of skin) begins to flake and dry out. Scrubbing the dead layer of skin off brings life to a new layer of skin and because the scrub is made with coconut oil, it leaves me feeling extra soft. You can also use this scrub on your lips in the morning or night. Feel free to lick your lips after.

Moisturizer!

After my morning shower I love to use coconut oil to moisturize, it spreads evenly and I only need to use about a teaspoon for my entire body. It also absorbs really well into the skin, when used in small amounts, and softens parts of the body such as, feet, legs, elbows and lips, which are prone to drying out especially in the winter. In the summer, it is also perfect tanning oil when mixed with a little bit of sunblock. I do not moisturise if I have done a body scrub.

Make up remover

I am so done spending excessive amounts of cash on a million different beauty products that may not even work. Coconut oil is known to reduce aging, helps eczema and even ache. I use it to remove my eye makeup and lipstick and it works better than any product I’ve ever tried. Best part of all is that while I’m removing my make up its moisturiZing and lightly exfoliating my skin at the same time. Simply place a small amount of coconut oil on cotton pads and wipe your makeup off. Once you’ve removed your entire make up, lightly wash your face with a natural unscented soap or cleanser and the tone with rose-water.

Hair Treatment

Blessed with naturally, thick, curly, yet frizzy hair. I struggle when it comes to picking the best hair products with thousands to choose from I can spend the rest of my life searching until I find the perfect combination for my locks. Luckily, coconut oil saved me the trouble. Once or twice a week, before washing my hair, I apply a small amount of coconut oil on my ends and roots massage it in, brush it through and leave it for an hour or so before washing out. This has left my hair soft and shiny & I am also convinced it has strengthened my hair and improved my hair growth.
